U10’s V Widden (away)

Tewkesbury tigers under 10’s , split their squad into two very strong teams and set off in different directions . One team went over to play Widden and the other went over to meet and play Malvern.
Widden 15 – 25 Tewkesbury
The team started very strong against a strong looking Widden side , the team played very well and as the coaches looked on started to show them that after all they had taken on board what the coaches had trained them to do and had taken on board the new rules. Strong running with great support at every break down saw Tewkesbury run in 2 quick tries . Fair play to Widden who came back with a well worked try of their own but before half time Tewkesbury had gone over again to make it 15 – 5 . The second half saw much of the same Tewkesbury attacking and defending with an up beat tempo , this created space as Tewkesbury secured there ball then passed it down the line to the supporting players to run in 2 more tries . Once again Widden came back to grab a good try of there own , the game ended when one of the Tewkesbury players crossed the line only for the try to be ruled out for a dodgy knock on.
Widden 10 – 20 Tewkesbury
Once again Tewkesbury came out with guns a blazing and once again forced Widden back. The game went much as the first game with Tewkesbury running in 3 un-answered tries before half time . The second half saw Tewkesbury start to tire and fall off tackles , Widden took advantage of this and ran in a couple of tries but Tewkesbury did rally around and pull a try out of the bag to dis-hearten the Widden team and kill off the game.
Well done to the boys and girl who travelled to Widden they played great and did the club proud.

Tigers Under 10’s vs Upton

Tigers Under 10’s played local rivals Upton upon Severn on Sunday running out winners in both games by 6 Trys to 1 and 4 Trys to nil in the second.

After a quick warm up in the cold, the guys were ready for the first game at 11am. Fortunately the rain has stopped and the first game kicked off with both sides providing lots of endeavour and desire to pass and run with the ball. First half saw the Under 10’s from Tewkesbury come out on top with 4 good try’s, notably from Henry McMahon who ran in 2. Upton came back with a good try of their own when they scored directly from a Kick Off as the Tigers boys slept in defence ..snzzzzz

Second half saw Upton hit back but a solid defence from the Tigers held firm and resulted in Upton being forced into errors that the Tigers converted into good trys from Louis Corless and Jack Pates. Tigers maul functioned very well creating good momentum and worked well in defence slowing Upton possession. Josh Barnes finished off a lovely move when the boys went through 5 or 6 phases of ruck and mauls, passing through hands and finally to Josh B. With 10 metres still to go and 2 defenders to beat, he aimed for the last defender hit him with the opposite shoulder and then rolled off him to spin through between the Upton players and touch down, great skills! Jayne Smith, playing only her 3rd game for the Tigers, produced her best performance so far producing some great runs with the ball and showing wonderful ability. Although I’m not sure when she took off her scrum cap the Upton boys were so pleased too see who had knocked them over!   Go Jayne!!!

Second game started well again for Tewkesbury with excellent direct running and good clearing at the ruck, big hats off to Tyler and Josh Russell for clearing work done. The backs now started to come into it more with greater space on the pitch seeing good trys from Joel Hughes and Tyler Long again. Tigers worked hard to get the ball out of the tackle quickly with Joel’s try coming from good work from Henry McMahon giving Joel room to cut back in from the wing and weave in over the line un-touched from 10 metres out. Other notable mentions go to Louis Corless, for stepping off the wing several time to come looking for the ball, we even saw him in the middle of the maul at one point driving Upton back. For this work and great skills evading players on the wing we gave him the Skills Award because it was a big step up in his tackling and mauling.

Man Of the Match went to Henry, to be honest he had a blinder!  Ran hard and straight, passed very well out of tackles and put in some super tackles himself. He also scored a couple of trys as well just for good measure.

Henry and Louis then took part in the Chocolate Challenge, with Henry devouring his Mars bar in record time.

Great team effort all round and looking forward to the next game!

County Festival @ Dursley 22nd January

When we arrived we found out that our pool had changed completely and we were in what seemed to be the hardest group of all.

The team rose to the challenge and never disappointed as always.

Our first game was against Lydney. Sam Thomas scored early in the first half providing us with the start we needed. A strong battle ensued between two evenly matched sides. Lydney went onto score two tries to take the win.

MOM – S.Thomas

Our second game was against St Mary’s Old Boys who proved to be very strong and injuries to key players, loss of structure and a lack of tackling saw Tewkesbury go down to a large defeat.

MOM – N. Knight

Our third game was against Bredon Star. The team picked themselves up from the previous game and provided an extremely entertaining and close game. Jack Brinn came very close to giving Tewkesbury the lead early in the first half after some strong attacking rugby but unfortunately was held up on the line. Bredon subsequently scored two tries to secure the win.

MOM  – E.Perry

Our final match was against Stroud which again provided a very good and close game with both teams rucking and counter rucking extremely well. Stroud scored two tries to win the match.

MOM – J.Brinn

We were extremely proud of the team as they never gave up and fought hard against strong opposition.

Well done boys and girl.

Thanks to all our dedicated supporters who are always there.

Looking forward to next year.

Tewkesbury U10 v Evesham – 27th Nov

Tewkesbury played some really good rugby against Evesham on a sunny but windy Sunday morning. Tewkesbury put in an excellent performance in the scrummage against a larger pack (in the second game) once again driving Evesham off the ball on many occasions.  The rucking was strong and Tewkesbury were able to rip the ball away from the Evesham in the mauls. Evesham never gave up, for which they should be applauded, coming back strong in the first game with two tries. Excellent performance by Tewkesbury who will be glad of the training session next week to  fix some of the mistakes that are being made in defence. Well done boys we are very proud of the attitude you show each week.
