Tewkesbury Tigers under 9’s hosted Longlevens rugby club this Sunday 18th November and the first team out put in an excellent display of running rugby with some big, hard tackles thrown in. The game started a little slow though as Tewkesbury let Longlevens run in an unchallenged try from the kick off, but this only spurred Tewkesbury on and as the players grow in confidence they started to communicate with each other in defence and attack and put pressure on their opponents. The pressure paid off and after winning the ball back in the loose Tewkesbury passed the ball down the line for Brendan Llewellyn to round his opponent and outpace the covering players to score an impressive try. From the restart the Tewkesbury players upped their game even more with Charlie Kendrick, Sam Williams and Shaun Collins all taking charge and orchestrating the lines of attack and defence. As Longlevens started to struggle to keep hold of the ball young Mason Rendell seized his chance and ran a lovely weaving line to score another try just before the end of the half .
The second half started with both teams competing well for the ball but Tewkesbury came off the stronger with Joe Goodridge and Harry Ashton making some big strong runs and Jack Cordell supporting them all the way Tewkesbury won the ball in a good position, Jack Cordell passed the ball to Sam Williams who shipped the ball down the line to Charlie Newing , he was stopped just short of the line but had the presence of mind to pop the ball to the ever present Charlie Kendrick , who then floated a miss pass to Sam Williams to run in the third try of the game for Tewkesbury. The teams then battled each other well with Longlevens edging the final minutes of the game with a nice try of their own. The game ended 15-10 to Tewkesbury, I’d like to make a special mention to Tyler Martin who had a great game in defence and attack and won many a ball on the deck and tackled like a demon. All the kids played very well and should be proud of how they played .
The second game Tewkesbury fielded a fresh team , the game started off the same as the first game with the same Longlevens player running around the Tewkesbury players and scoring a try, this unfortunately did not have the same effect as the previous game and this time Longlevens did not want to give this game up and loose a second. The Tewkesbury players challenged well in the game but unfortunately fell off to many tackles this allowed Longlevens to run in three more tries before the half was over. The second half started slowly for Tewkesbury and Longlevens took full advantage and scored two more tries, Tewkesbury did however manage to get on the score sheet when they managed to get clean ball and pass it down the line for Ellis Todd to score in the corner, all the kids played well and in fits and starts showed some good promise, players like Harvey Maycock , Jorja Taylor, Miles Rendell, Sam Carter, Alex Oliver, Simon Ellwood, Aaron Nunn, Jacob Packwood and Dan Lewis. Well done to all the kids who were available to play today keep it up.
